We are very much looking forward to having this record number of participants in Spanish take the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam in May. The preparations are underway to ensure adequate testing facilities for students. Traditionally, our students have scored well on the AP Spanish Language exam, scoring a 3 in a few instance, and a majority scoring 4s and 5s, the highest scores available. When students score at these high levels, they are awarded college credit, the number of credits dependent on the University. Essentially, this equates to free money for college, and considering that this year, many of our students taking this exam are freshmen, what a fantastic way to validate their hard work and value of what they are able to do in Spanish. We expect these high numbers of AP test takers to increase, as the Board Policy now states that students who wish to earn weighted credit must take the AP exam for that course. We also anticipate greater numbers of students accessing AP courses as early as freshmen and sophomore years as students from Dual Language programming make their way beyond the 8th Grade Pre-AP Spanish course to high school. Let's celebrate this now and look forward to early July when we can celebrate once again these students' achievement when AP exam score are released. Finally, we also look forward to increasing numbers overall for students taking AP exams in our world languages program, in French and in Spanish when we add AP Spanish VI Literature and Culture in the fall. There are some really exciting things happening that we can celebrate in World Languages these days, and more to come!
