September 30-DL ESL and BIL Spec Ed "Sign off" on Dual Language Handbook (Site based sign off)
October 1st: NABE the Importance of Being Bilingual Writing DUE to NABE!!  
October 5th (on or around): Unit 2 BUFS posted on BB9 by the EC team for grades 2-5.
!!IMPORTANTE!!!!!!!NABE Writing Contest.  

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE EMAILED BY TEACHER AND BE IN WORD DOCUMENT!!


A suggestion would be to have students write them in word and save them to a drive.

Email the entries to awards.nabe@gmail.com, and in the subject you must write 2016 and the students First and Last Name (ex. 2016DarioGarcia)

Please also have students upload their writing to a google folder, and share the folder with me, as we will be using these writing samples for other purposes.

Opportunity:


  • Learn the ins and outs of BadgerLink-Espanol from the pros Thursdays, 10-10:30 AM


  • BUFS-support can be sought through Erica Mueller's TDP on:Supporting Students in Constructing Explanations in Science.  This book is a great resource (and you get it FREE!) in how to instruct students and help them become better thinkers, READERS AND WRITERS in science.  One of the biggest themes in NGSS and the science CCRS is constructing explanations; the more we know the more we can support students.  Check out the syllabus for more information.  Our face to face dates will be October 27 and November 17 from 4-5:30. This course can be taken for free if you are just looking to learn and/or count toward your 9 required Waukesha credits. If you would like a graduate credit, you can earn one credit through Viterbo for $220.  The registration for Viterbo is attached and can be returned with the money to Chris Garcia at Lindholm. If you would like to take part in this collegial study, please fill out this form by October 16.

5K Imagine Learning
Each 5K DL Classroom will have 10 Imagine Learning Accounts for student use.   Imagine Learning is a tool that students can use as a supplement to universal instruction, and as such, your neediest students should access it as a supplement to regular instruction.

Please use this Document to write the names of the students you would like accounts for.  If after October 15, licenses remain or are unused, those licenses will be given to needy children throughout our program.

Celebrations
WELC is transitioning 4K Bilingual to 4K Dual Language

Along with Banting 4K Dual Language and our 7 5Ks, 
we are on the road to the full transition of the program.

While kids are hot and sweaty, they are working their bilingual brains!  What an accomplishment!

I have some girls in 8th grade who had both of you last year and they are rocking our first list of word stems because they learned them with you guys! Awesome job :D :D



Program Visibility: NABE Writing Contest-Chicago!
Last year, Luis Albiter WON the first prize in the middle school category for his essay on the importance of being bilingual and went to Las Vegas to accept his award!

This year all 8th grade Pre-AP Spanish Students will participate too!  

This is a great opportunity to also submit to WIABE later in the year, and to prepare for a district wide award!  These writing samples will also prepare students to be great stewards of the program during parent information nights, See it LIVE! and even in the Freeman!

Writing is DUE to the Bilingual Office by September 24th!!!!!
A BOX will be sent with each classes writing and coversheet!
Be sure to include the cover sheet!
