Dual Language Summer Institute Messaging Updates

DICTADOS:
Dictados are a required practice written into the ELD and BUF units.  The practice will be observed, monitored and grown throughout the year based on data collected in those units.  Dictados are part of best practice in word work for Emergent Bilingual Students and is recommended that each teacher plan for word study in CLM K-1 and CLM 2-5; however, district wide dictados have not been provided for you due to the varience of texts teachers use for units.  The responsibility for delivering the Biliteracy Continuum Word Study Skills is the teachers and should maximize alignment between the texts and themes used in each classroom, and practices that build greatest potential for biliteracy and transfer.

SCIENCE 2-5:
Most took part in some learning around science practices and tools, as well as environmental education. Erica Mueller and myself want to reaffirm that in Dual Language 2-5th you are using the Biliteracy Unit Framework for paired literacy aligned with Science in Spanish or Social Studies in English.  This is the curriculum and expectation. We both would like to be clear that the resources you were presented today may help you enrich the BUF but does not replace the BUF.

SCIENCE K-1
Science and the ELD unit alignment requires DL teachers to use the unit pacing in this Document. The pacing in Scienceyou received from Erica yesterday was a suggestion to all teachers, however DL teachers, we have a carefully aligned curriculum with content, language and Bridges that you will use as your guaranteed curriculum. If changes are needed to accommodate scheduling and deeper practice, we will make those adjustments in 2018. During your ELD session with Marisa and Jamie, you will access this curriculum with greater depth and appreciation for its thorough alignment.
