FISHBOWL-La Pecera

When you want to introduce a new game or model a way to partner-share, try using the Fishbowl strategy. I had a new math game called Shapeland that I wanted to try out with the kids. I asked the star of the week to join me in the middle of the carpet and he could invite a friend. I also invited another friend so we had 4 players. The rest of the class formed a standing circle around us to watch and listen to us play. After completing the game, we all sat in the circle and I gave time for questions or comments. To my delight I heard, “That game looks fun Miss Larsson!” and also, “Ganar no es lo más importante.” When I asked this student to elaborate he said, “Es más importante aprender las formas.” We also cleared up any questions and then I gave children time to play in small groups. I was able to rotate around and listen to and watch the students play and learn together with very little reteaching or redirecting. Below are some pictures of them working in their small groups:

Temas del libro: la colaboración, los campesinos migrantes, los derechos humanos, la justicia, biografía
Temas posibles de CLM: Comunidad, Identidad, Poder (Power Social Issues)
Sinopsis: Este libro explica el trabajo de dos personas muy influyentes en la historia de la lucha por los derechos de los campesinos migrantes en los Estados Unidos, Dolores Huerta y César Chávez. La autora usa lenguaje que informa y capta el interés de los niños para explicar las condiciones en que los campesinos migrantes trabajaron y vivieron en aquellos tiempos,  y cómo Dolores y César contribuyeron para cambiar la injusticia y el maltrato que sufrieron.
Ideas para usar este libro en clase:
-Examinar la idea principal y detalles importantes
-Conversar sobre los temas de poder, justicia, y derechos humanos
-Analizar a los personajes importantes y sus características (la valentía, la compasión, etc.)
-Investigar la vida de los campesinos migrantes hoy en día y en el pasado através de otros libros relacionados con el tema; Cosechando esperanza, El canto de las palomas, etc.
